Application in pharmaceutical industry

Sodium bicarbonate is used in the pharmaceutical industry for over-the-counter and prescription drugs. Sodium bicarbonate is used to treat metabolic acidosis that may occur in kidney disease, uncontrolled diabetes, circulatory failure due to shock or severe dehydration, and to treat certain drug poisonings, including barbiturates, in poisoning with salicylates or methyl alcohol, and In hemolytic reactions that require alkalinization of urine, it prevents renal toxicity of blood pigments.
